Safe straws for mason jar "tumblers"??

We use glass cups but sometimes it's nice to have a lid for our youngest (who's 4), to keep at everyone's bedside at night, and for travel.

I recently found the mason jar love, for storing food in the kitchen, so it made sense to buy lids for them and drink out of them too LOL. So I found some BPA free plastic lids, with a straw hole drilled into them, on etsy and just got them. I love them. Now I'm trying to decide on some straws to use with them. For now we're using disposable straws, but I don't know what kind of chemicals might be coming out of them and I hate to think of how many we'd be throwing away per year.

What kind of straws do you use with your mason jars? Stainless steel, glass, silicone??

Are reusable straws hard to keep clean? I saw some silicone "pure straws" and I'm considering maybe trying those? I'm nervous about how non-flexible stainless steel straws and glass straws would be. Seems like kids could injure their teeth, gums, or palate with them? Maybe it's ok if the straws are only 2-3" taller than the mason jar? Anybody use them?

Thx! I saw those but was afraid my kids would say they look too much like sippy cups and not want to use them? LOL

I don't know about the straws, unfortunately. We just don't use any at all at our house. I just popped in to throw another idea at you. Our kids each have a stainless steel water bottle that only ever has water in it for while they are in bed and while we travel.

We have stainless steel straws that we bought a few years ago. Haven't bought a plastic straw since. We put them with the utensils in the dishwasher. They always come clean. If you hand wash you'd need a pipe cleaner or something to clean them. Worth every penny

Oh my goodness, thank you for sharing this! My husband drinks coffee out of jars all the time and I am getting him one of these!

Thx everyone! I tried stainless steel water bottles once, and my kids didn't like them. They said they could taste the metal (I washed them good first)? So I eventually gave them away since they prefer glass. You're right, those lids do look like hot cocoa or coffee lids. Maybe I'll try those as well as some reusable straws then.

I am so glad I clicked on this thread. I never knew these existed. My dd can't drink from an open cup due to a twitch. Now I will feel better giving her a straw not made of plastic. Thanks.
