Good PS plan or to much?

OK I got Cathy Duffys expensive book and narrowed down our PS options to HOD age 4/5 and Teaching Children to read with Children's books... sound good, to much? We also have random work books, and I am very familiar with the 1+1+1=1 site.

He is 4 1/2.

No matter what you plan, ease into it. Follow your child's lead and you'll know when you have "enough".

Thanks!

I keep getting pressure from family and friends (not DH though) that he NEEDS PS... My mom even said it today during conversation

Just ordered the teaching children to read with children's books and hoping to start that soon, then ease into more in the fall as he is ready.

Re: Good PS plan or to much?

I'm a fan of early learning and we did use HOD preschool for a short time. I liked it but my son was reading by then and it wasn't really a good fit for him. I haven't heard of the reading program you mentioned but it sounds neat. I think the most important thing for me was focused attention. I'd rather have 5 or 10 minutes of focused attention from him than 30 minutes to an hour of kind of sort of attention. We still break the day up and do some school in the morning and some in the afternoon (afternoon is usually fun stuff) so I have his full attention.

Thanks! I think we will have to do 10 minutes a few times a day, as he likes it (I do want him to enjoy it) to get it all in. I don't think he is ready to site for 30 minutes straight, unless it is for his fav stories, he can sit through all of those no problem. I ordered the book and hope we like it. And by August he may surprise me! His attention is improving all the time.
