I don't change my diet at all while pregnant and the only times I've heard about listeria and avoiding lunch meat has been online. I figure if my OB has never mentioned it to me in the 3+ yrs I've been seeing her, that its probably not something I'm worried about.

Eh, kind of. I heat up deli meat but I've been known to eat some feta and fresh sushi.

Re: Do you go out of your way to avoid Listeria with all your Pregnancies?

I have been, with the exception of Panera's chicken caesar sandwiches, avoiding lunch meat and eating a steak (as I like mine medium). But, we had steak tonight (well done) and it wasn't that bad, though I would have preferred medium. I didn't know about the soft serve ice cream but our soft serve place here hasn't opened yet and probably won't for another month. I have other options for ice cream, though.

I did avoid cold lunch meat, since that's the most likely way to get it, but that's it.

Re: Do you go out of your way to avoid Listeria with all your Pregnancies?

There was a listeria outbreak here about two years ago from lunch meat. Several elderly people died so I'm careful. I heat it up in the microwave but not for long. I don't really worry about anything else. Any cheeses we buy are all pasteurized. We dont' eat shellfish or raw fish so no worry there either.

There was a listeria outbreak when I was pregnant with DS, that scared me a little, but not enough to stop eating hot dogs.

I don't generally eat lunch meat, and medium rare steak and raw sushi/sashimi grosses me out when I'm pregnant. I was more restrictive when I was pregnant with DS, and relaxed a lot with DD. I did get food poisoning when pregnant with DD, and that was the worst thing in my life. It wasn't caused by any of the "problem" foods though. Just a freak occurrence.
