Re: How much blood is there during delivery?

I honestly don't even know. I didn't bleed until after baby was out, and at that point all I cared about was seeing baby.

I started bleeding after I lost my mucus plug. Kept getting heavier and heavier until I had her.

This was my VBAC, and I was SHOCKED that they put basically a horse parade bag at the foot of the bed to catch all the blood and yuckiness. It was insane! I watched the birth in a mirror. It was amazing and scary, all at the same time.

Re: How much blood is there during delivery?

For me the bleeding was after. During the actual labor and delivery there is just the bloody show at the beginning (pink or blood tinged mucus) and then a little bit from tearing. I barely saw any blood with my second. With my first I had an episiotomy and he was "the prime ripper" as one of my patient's calls it. I must have bled like crazy. After the baby was out it looked like someone had taken a gallon of blood and dumped it all over the floor!

With my first I didn't bleed much, and with my second a bled a lot. I remember asking several times if it was normal, and she said it was

In my case there was some but not a ton during delivery but chances are you won't be able to see it over your belly anyhow (if you are going to deliver on your back)

More than I ever imagined. I remember walking back to the bed from the tub to push and looking down seeing blood running down my leg.

But my doula kept commenting that I was having a lot of bloody show and I remember looking around the tub between contractions thinking I saw like 2 spots of blood and wondering what she was talking about.

And I remember a huge gush when DS was born. Prolly mostly fluids of other sorts.

But how much? Not sure.

Re: How much blood is there during delivery?

Average blood loss after delivery is 1-2 cups. A normal period is about 1/4 to 1/2 cup, so it is heavy for a little while. Some women bleed much less than that, others have a lot more. During labor it can range from blood streaked mucous to a steady slow flow. My guess is you won't notice

Re: How much blood is there during delivery?

I don't really bleed until after I deliver my baby. It has gotten worse each time, where I bled more. I have needed pitocin every time. Last time, I delivered standing, and after she came out it was like a tap turned on. Blood pouring down my leg and splashing onto the floor. They started counting mintues, and telling "you HAVE to get on the bed NOW." I did, and needed pitocin again. I had 2nd degree tears again. After I was all stitched up and the room had been mopped. My midwife said, "hmm that was a messy birth."

Re: How much blood is there during delivery?

It wasn't bad until she was born I don't think (delivered on hands and knees in the hospital). DH took a few pictures of the delivery room after. I had lots of tearing (took 2 hours to stitch me) and needed some pit. The internal tears were causing the midwifes to be concerned so they had the OB come in to take care of me ASAP.

I had a bit of bloody show, it wasn't bad at all in the beginning and then became like a period sort of.

Re: How much blood is there during delivery?

With DS1 I know I bled a LOT because they were concerned about the blood loss. But honestly, I didn't actually /see/ any of it. It really depends on how your body births, if you tear, and how the process goes.
