Muslin for prefolds?

As anyone ever made prefolds with unbleached 100% cotton muslin? I typically use twill, but shipping is getting to be as much as my total! It would be nice to be able to pick it up in town. Thoughts?

Re: Muslin for prefolds?

Hmm, I wouldn't think muslin would be very soft. Fabric.com has twill on sale right now (back to school sale) and it's free shipping with a $35 order.

Re: Muslin for prefolds?

I have not tried muslin but I have used hemp babies, which has a similar surface texture. I stopped using it because I didn't think it was soft enough. It appears rough enough to chafe. My daughter didn't have any complaints or redness, though, so perhaps that is mother's preference.

However, you can get cotton jersey on sale either online or in store frequently enough that I would recommend that route. It's soft and stretchy, and about $4.50 a yard if you get it on sale, $6.00 for prints.
