How do you store bulk grains?

I'm starting to venture into buying in bulk and just got my first coop order in! Now I have 4 bags of dried beans and oatmeal and I didn't think ahead on what to do with them. I could resort to 5 gallon buckets, I guess. Something like Whole Foods has where you add at the top and take from a spout in the bottom and would fit on a pantry shelf would be awesome! At least in theory? What does everyone else use?

TIA!

I actually use canning jars. Large ones as they store pretty well in those. I just line them up on my shelf. When I have more oatmeal than jars, I put the extra in gallon size ziplock bags. The 5 Gallon bucket idea sounds great though!

I didn't think of that! Googleing isn't coming up with anything for me so far so I'll go search for those.

We use Gamma lids & buckets. I guess it depends how much you need to store. We buy dry goods up to 50 lbs at a time.

I remember my mom stored stuff in buckets and you had to use a special tool to pry the lid off each time you wanted something. Those Gamma lids are nice!

Those buckets look great but are not available to me locally. I have my rice in some huge Rubbermaid stacked in a cabinet and in some canning jars and old PB jars on a shelf.

Re: How do you store bulk grains?

So here's what I came up with for now, although if I hadn't needed something ASAP I feel like I could have found a better option! I got 5 gallon buckets with Gamma lids for the pantry and Oxo Pop containers to keep in the kitchen. Someone needs to invent square buckets with a grain sized spout on bottom and a Gamma lid on top!

I use antique canning jars that I got from my mom. I think she got them from a garage sale like 40 years ago. I store them on an open shelf so they are practical, but cool looking too.

Re: How do you store bulk grains?

For larger items like 50 pounds of flour I use 5 gallon buckets and for smaller things I use Ice cream pails that I have saved. For in the kitchen I use tupperware canisters.

We mostly use these.http://www.samsclub.com/sams/two-6-q....ip?navAction=

The only thing that we buy too much of to use them is rice and oatmeal, for those we use 5 gallon buckets and keep a smaller container of them in the kitchen for easier access.
