Where do you place your bottom/waist straps?

For MeiTais, Ergo, Beco, etc.?
I just noticed all the product ads show waist straps ON people's hips, like almost belt line or so low that baby's bum is almost on the wearer's bum!
I have always placed mine under my rib cage!
I tried an Ergo and it did not fit me torso wise, this was a few years back. Otherwise, I have used MeiTais. Sitting in my lap is a Beco Butterfly 2 (YAY! Birthday present!) that I am about to try out with my 18 month old and just double checked "how to" videos. I know the carrier itself will work for me, tried one out at a store, but the placement thing got me curious.
Maybe because of my size? I'm 5'1 and short in the torso. Anytime I have placed children lower, intentionally or the carrier loosened up some, the weight pressing on my lower back and hips was very uncomfortable. When I place the bottom straps under my rib cage or so, the weight falls for my shoulder/upper back and balances out for my upper legs to bear. Most of the time I can carry a child for a long period like this, like a comfortable fitting backpack.

It must be ok for me to do this, yea? Babywearing is not supposed to be uncomfortable.
How about you?

I am your height and also short torsoed. I put it right where my waist naturally indents, which happens to be right below the rib cage as well.

I put mine right on my hips, where my belt would be on my pants. I am 5'2 and also have a short torso.

I do both. Good when I want him to sleep and waist when I want him awake.

I have a bb2 as well, as dd has gotten bigger I have moved her down and now latch on hips, when she was smaller I did waist, it felt a bit more snug. I am 5'6" though.
