Re: How to help a child poop on the toilet?

I suggest spending money on ohcrappottytraining.com $15 worth it, a whole chapter on poop! My lo 18 months poops om the potty most of the time and is mostly potty trained out of the house already. Its only been 2 weeks of pottytraining.

We are having the same problem with DS. He is our first and our second is due to arrive in August. We are just hoping we can resolve it by then. I may try that pants idea, as going nakies isn't working.

We are expecting a baby in Aug. also, so I really wanted DD to be all done. At the moment, I gave up and put her back in diapers. DH took over diaper changes, which was fine with me. We have dangled some carrots in front of her to try to motivate her, but thus far, she doesn't have the "want to". I am taking hope in the fact that she won't be wearing diapers when she gets married.

I brought a portable potty in the living room and she pooped out of the bathroom. U might try taking potty in a different room!

Really, that's what I am hoping for too at this point. This week DS has also decided that he should also just forget all about even peeing in the potty . Honestly I just think he is smart, I mean it's just soooo much more fun to just go while playing. Mommy or Daddy will clean it up in 2 seconds flat, so why take time out of play time, even though we sit him on the potty every 30 min to an hour to see if he will go. I think we are getting him back on track. I hear this happens. Maybe when he gets back on track he will add #2 to the potty.

We tried this one too, a lot. It was a no go. I think some kids are just stubborn potty trainers. DS always comes and tells me "Poo Poo's go in the potty, Mom." and then we sit him on the potty, while he laughs and we read him Once Upon A Potty. Then, without result, he gets up, goes to play and promptly poops his unders. Le Sigh.

What is your approach when you know she needs to go? Are you relaxed or intense? Are you asking her if she needs to go or telling her to come to the toilet? Is she hiding to poop? I would try to make things as relaxed as possible: sing songs with her, laugh, tell jokes, read a book, bring the toy she is playing with to the potty when she shows her signals. Maybe grunt right along with her or tell her, "It's ok honey, let it go". That's what I did with DS3. The dude was so proud of himself, he said, "Look, I made a J!" If she is hiding, maybe she needs some privacy, tell her where the toilet is, say, "I can see you need to poop- there's the toilet" and let her make the decision to go there. Keep t
rying mama, she will get there!

Thank you so much for the cotton pants suggestion! We tried it today. Usually when DS goes poo in his undies he won't even tell us. Today we tried cotton pants with no undies and he came to me right away. "Momma, poop is going down leg! Fix it? Clean your messy? Disgusting!" He hated it! We have yet to see if that will do the trick, but I think being THAT uncomfortable as opposed to not giving a care is a huge step in the right direction! Thanks Mamma!

Re: How to help a child poop on the toilet?

DD doesn't care. She doesn't care if it is in her undies, on the floor, or in a diaper. She simply doesn't care. I told her until she can put everything in the toilet, she has to wear diapers. She doesn't care. My mom says she is like me, and thinks that one day, DD will simply decide she is done with diapers. We shall see.

Re: How to help a child poop on the toilet?

My son is 3 and he has been PT for a year. He asks for a diaper to poop and we have him do it in the bathroom. There will be a big prize when he poops in the potty but we are not pushing it.
