Re: When did you start pumping after your LO arrives?

I started pumping right away because I had a hard time getting my daughter to latch on. I would wait an hour after a feeding in the morning when I had the most milk and then pump. It's better to add in an extra pumping/feeding time in the morning instead of at night. My lactation consultant told me it has to with your hormones and when your milk comes in that makes morning better.

I pumped at about a week because it was fast flow and she was having tummy issues. I only pump now (6 mths) if caregiver gives her a late bottle. I have a huge freezer stash since I use to pump before work every am.

Re: When did you start pumping after your LO arrives?

I started a few weeks before I returned to work. The main goal was to have enough milk to send to daycare the first day, plus a little extra back up. The back up is REALLY important to cover mishaps like spilling.

I've read many times it is better to pump in the morning when supply is high. I think the important part is to pump at about the same time everyday, because you will be training your body to make more milk at that time. My LO was sleeping fairly well at the time I started pumping (4 to 6 hours), so I would pump when he went to bed. The first few nights I didn't get much, but then my body caught on and I got about 2 ounces a session.
