How to take a baby to the beach...?

Can I put sunscreen on my 2 month-old?
Where can I get a giant sombrero in baby size?
Should I not take him to the beach yet?

Thanks!

We did the beach early, but we used a pea pod. I know they have been recalled, but we never used it as a "bed" -- only a place to put baby safely in sunny/buggy situations with supervision.

We got an umbrella when DS1 was a few months old. We just laid him on the blanket under the umbrella and he napped.

I would bring shade, and buy a sun suit type thing. The full body sun suits are $25 at REI, but I don't know what their smallest size is.

Check with doctor but mine recommended topical type of sunscreen over chemical- look for ones with zinc oxide as the main component and it will make their skin kind of white- the same white stuff that lifeguards coat their nose with- there is less likelihood of a reaction.

Of course I had already been applying Coppertone WaterBabies with no ill effects so I kept doing that. The solid stick type is great because its easy to reapply where you need it (exposed skin).

I live in CA, we have a lot of sun and I wasn't going to keep myself or baby bottled up for the first 6 months, its basically impossible. Bring shade and have fun!

We live in Hawaii. I didn't apply and sunscreen until 6 months and still have only done it on his legs. We spend a lot of time outside but I keep a hat on him. On the beach I just provide shade and nurse a lot so that he doesn't get dehydrated. We also tend to go after the heat of the day or early in the morning and I allow him to get that sun on him.

We live 15 minutes from the beach, and our babies mostly stayed under the umbrella. They also had protective gear...rash guard tops and hats. Gymboree makes great sunhats that cover all of the shoulders and most of the back. Those have always been my faves.

I took my son to the beach at 9 weeks and just kept him in his car seat and under an umbrella. He loved it!!! Slept, nursed, slept, repeat. No sunscreen.

Yeah, they can sit in their infant seat or lie down on a towel under an umbrella. Those aden & anias blankets would make a great sunshade over a car seat.

Or maybe in a stroller with a recline option.

Have fun at the beach!!

My littles always stayed under the umbrella (over even better are those pop up tent/cabana type beach shelters). They also had hats and rash guard type clothing.
