Re: Military Mamas Overseas

Hi and welcome to Germany! (seeing you ll have arrived by now )

I´m not an American Military wife but hubby is currently depl to sandpit so...
As far as the washing machine sizes go here in Germany, there no different to Australian ones , except for maybe the huge toploaders, which aren´t very common there either, so I can´t contribute to that convo.
@Mommymerk I´m currently in the same boat and am having a hard time finding the brands for modern cloth diapers I´m after. I found a few at blumenkinder.eu but will most likely have to have my choice of dipes send to friends and family in Australia and U.S. and have them send them on to me...so much trouble. If I find some more online shops that ship to Germany and have a good selection of diapers I´m happy to pass info on to you

We're pcsing to Spangdahlem in November! I can't wait to be back in Germany.
Kind of nervous about the cloth washing situation. So glad I can get some input here beforehand.

Re: Military Mamas Overseas

We live in England on base so are lucky to have the American top loader washer and dryer. We lived out in town for 10 months before moving on base so we used to have the tiny European washer & dryer. It took forever to wash the diapers and I didn't feel like they got as clean, but I made it work. We have extremely hard water here (I'm not sure about Germany) so I wash at night and let them soak in the washer full of hot water overnight with every wash.

We're military and were in Freiburg for two years. If you live on base, take every opportunity to explore the area, as the time passes sooo quickly! It's such a child-friendly place. I really, really miss it. I didn't CD yet while I was there but if I had, there is no way I could have dried them in my dryer (on loan from base). I line dried everything, and it was sooo fast. The dryer took forever to dry regular clothing and I would have to empty the condenser halfway through. My prefolds would have taken all day.

I'm at spangdahlem. Have cd successfully during PCS, movingand visiting many countries. Only one crazy situation my hotel in Austria did not have washing machine, had to hand wash everyday in tub! Take advantage of where you live, we have been here a year so far. I have immersed myself in culture in language. My 6 year old will attend the grundschule, he picked up the language in no time. I want to stay here forever. Our village is a little far from Spang, but we like it. We love our neighbors and have made some really great friends! I soon will go bowling with one my friends, "kegelbahn". Get out there, meet people. It is so scary I know, I'm usually quite a hermit, but you have to try!

Re: Military Mamas Overseas

Oh and I have a Siemens german washer/dryer. It is super nice and techy. I had to figure out the best routine, which took a few different tries. So now I have to pre wash, wash, spin/rinse. If and when we do get sun, I take full advantage.

Oh and one more thing, when we travel we do usually stay in apartments or holiday homes. Most will only have washers, so account for that. When we visited Estonia our apartment only had a washer, diapers took forever to dry! This was a serious problem! Lol.

Re: Military Mamas Overseas

I am starting a support group in our area. Our first meeting will be June 19 at 10 am, park across from TLF building. If weather is bad, we will have it at my house. I am creating a group email list. Let me know if anyone is interested. I posted the info on the yard sales....Thanks! Marissa
