Who diagnosed your kiddo with spd and how old was he/she?

Re: Sensory processing disorder

Pediatrician at 2.5. Not sure that dx is entirely official, but she told me about it and its in her paperwork. The PT and OT both mentioned it about a year before that, but of course they don't diagnose. The neurologist was closer to age three. We might be extreme though, several of her sensory issues test off the charts. Not sure what's typical.

The pedi at maybe 2, then a psychologist re-affirmed it at 11. I can almost guarantee my youngest has it too but we haven't bothered with diagnosis considering everything else he has going on.

Interesting that the peds are diagnosing. I've never spoken to his ped about it but when I asked the ot she said spd. I knew he needed therapy so I went straight to birth to three and they got the referral.

My daughter has it and was diagnosed by her therapist at age 9. She also has GAD & PTSD following an accident.
My son has it, too. He was initially diagnosed by Early Intervention at 2 1/2 & then by neurology right before age 3 with severe SPD. He attends a special education school now.

Early Intervention for levi, Preschool (developmental one) for Jacob.. I think a combo of school/Psychologist for Miranda.

Can anyone share their experience with spd? I know it looks different for every kid, but I'm wondering if I am over reacting to my son's (2.5) behaviors? We have an evaluation with early intervention tomorrow afternoon & I just want to prepare myself. How did your evaluations go? I'm afraid Caden won't cooperate & will be upset that strangers are in the house.

Re: Sensory processing disorder

OP
DD2 - OT at just turned 4 yrs, ped never heard of it (prob would have been diagnosed from infancy if we'd known where to take her)
DS1 - OT at 19 mos (sensory based motor disorder / dyspraxia)
neither had official SIPT just by checklists and therapist observations / parental reports

PP
Read Sensational Kids and The Out of Sync Child - I got them both from the library. Reading them was the "Aha" moment where I knew my my kids were dealing with.

You already know because I'm back here late, but they are just going to come out and ask you a ton of questions. They don't care what he's doing this first visit.

Levi is just now warming up to his speech person. He just met the OT lady, and he's not too sure about her yet, but she hasn't really interacted with him yet either. lol
