Insurance isn't a guaranteed, you file a claim and you instantly get your money back either though. Post office is much more likely to find that you "improperly packed" your item vs paying out for a claim. And for items lost in transit, the post office "acceptable time for delivery" often is MUCH longer then the buyers acceptable time to wait.
That's one of the reasons I will never get insurance through the PO, and use other companies for it.

Re: Shipping Insurance???

I chose other because it's the seller's responsibility whether they are a WAHM or a FSOT seller.

This. I will purchase insurance if I don't want to risk losing the item I sold and the purchase price. Otherwise, I just ship without insurance and if something were to happen, I am ready to refund and be out my item.

The seller.

The buyer will get their money back via a chargeback or pp dispute but insurance is one way a seller has a chance of getting their own funds/value.

I used to think of it only from a buyers point of view but now I see that insurance really does protect the seller.

But like other have stated, I decide based on the value of the package.

I only purchase insurance when I feel the package is worth an amount that I don't want to risk having to pay out if it gets lost. When I was a WAHM, I didn't purchase insurance and figured I'd just take the risk and refund the buyer if a package ended up lost. As a FSOT seller, I only bother with insurance if the package is over $100. It's just the risk one is willing to take, but it has to be the seller's risk and responsibility to pay up if the package gets lost and they didn't buy insurance.

The rule of thumb is basically if you can't afford (or don't want to) be out that amount of money if something happens, get insurance on that package.
