That's ridiculous! You are right to remind them about eBay's policy. It is there to protect you and the seller. The listing is done, you paid the final amount, and there shouldn't be any extras after that.

Re: Ebay - seller asking for more money for shipping

I wouldn't send them more money, either, given Ebay's policy and it's not your fault that the seller underestimated the cost of shipping.

I just sold an item and accidentally had free shipping. Sold it for 5.24 and shipping cost 5.35. So it didn't even cover the shipping. I was tempted to ask for more money and explain that was accidental, but not their problem.

Sometimes I bid on eBay items and put my maximum bid with sellers shipping amount depending on what I have in my PP account and would not be able to pay more if the seller asked after the auction ended. If they underestimate, that's the fault of the seller. Personally, if I had the money and it was an outrageous difference I'd gladly help out. Sometimes it just isn't possible and I don't think they should expect it.

Re: Ebay - seller asking for more money for shipping

Do I understand the OP that they charged $27 for shipping and want $10 more? Yikes, that's a whole lot of shipping! I just had this same thing happen, and had the seller get quite nasty with me when I declined to pay more for shipping. I left neutral feedback (which she disputed) with an explanation.
