Do you mind my asking where you live for doulas to charge $900-1,000? That seems outrageous to me. (sorry if you are a doula and charge that much... )
How was your experience with a new doula? Did she still have a lot of techniques to help you out? My Midwife expressed these concerns to me about using my friend who of course is a new doula, so I'm just curious.

We live in the Seattle area which has a pretty high cost of living to start with. I thought the doula fees were outrageous too but after I read everything a doula does and what is covered in their fees, I feel $700-$900 is justifyable, it's just not something that we have the extra $$ for. Considering they are there from the beginning of labor to the very end which can last anywhere from 8-24 hrs, any childcare costs, food, their constant care and attention, post pardom care and follow up, gas etc. But I do agree, it is a lot of money!
