losing weight while bfing a toddler?

Ok, ladies. I tried dieting once when ds was about 6mos and had my supply severely decrease. (low-carbs) I still need to drop about 15lbs, but I don't want to lose my milk again! How do I do it without causing problems? I think I need to cut calories, but I'm worried that will cause the same issues. Ideas? Stories? TIA!! Ds is 1year old, btw!

One more tidbit of info: I've had af back since ds was 5mos old. He's in the 95th% for weight.

I got a book called "Eat well, lose weight while breastfeeding." It had a bunch of recipes.

I had the same problem so I quit dieting. I started again recently and did decrease a bit but it seems to have come back to normal. My kid is older now though (22 months) so she doesn't bf as much.

I think you'll just have to do it slowly, which sucks. You could cut a couple hundred calories a day for a while and let your body adjust and then see what happens.

Good luck momma!

I would make sure that you are eating ENOUGH!!!! If you are bfing, your body needs those extra calories to make milk, if not, you will hoard fat/calories in your body so that you can produce milk. Make sure you are eating well and well hydrated and I am sure you will see weight come off. A lot of it is also hormonal..... I wouldn't diet but rather just focus on eating well and getting excercise(not necessarily cardio but maybe weights to reshape/rebuild muscle that is often lost during pregnancy)
I hope that makes sense.....

Re: losing weight while bfing a toddler?

I have to diss myself here, and say I'm a total pig. I don't watch what I eat while I'm bfing. I just shovel in whatever the heck looks good while I don't have someone shoving a sippy cup in my face or mouthing my boob through my shirt, lol!

Seriously though, I'm not severely overweight, just chubby I guess. I'm a small size 14 (meaning that it's getting too big) and I'm 5' 6. I've got thunder thighs and a pooch. I need to dump the junk and my body isn't cooperating!!! I tried a healty low-carb diet months ago, and it worked and I did keep 10lbs of it off, but it also brought my milk supply down to alarmingly low levels.

I really DO need to get on that darn treadmill I insisted we buy and dh has lost a staggering 36 lbs on the @#@$#$!!!!!!!! He looks goooooood and I'm lookin lousy.
