Rash Issues

I am having rash troubles. I have 3 different diapers (charlie banana, bg 4.0, prefolds) and they all seem to give her a rash, as soon as I put her in disposables her bottom clears up after a couple of diaper changes. I have striped my diapers. Ran them through several rinse cycles, changed detergents a couple of times, I have tried changing her ever hour when she is awake, lots of air time, cut out acidic food. I'm exhausted ugh nothing seems to be working.

Any other suggestions?

Re: Rash Issues

Have you tried using stay-dry materials next to baby's skin? Also, how much detergent are you using?

Re: Rash Issues

Oh, and how about if you go PUL coverless, either using no cover at all or a fleece or wool option (or a breathable Nikky/Niji)? Any improvement? My daughter was very similar at one point and it took a combination of breathable diaper covers (we still can only use PUL for like an hour or two, and then only in the air conditioning--not b/c she has problems with the PUL itself, just because it isn't breathable enough), using more detergent (ignoring Pinstripes & Polkadots, etc., and using as much detergent as you would on a regular load of laundry), and--perhaps most importantly--using stay-dry fabrics like suedecloth or microfleece next to her skin. I think some of it was also just a stage for her, i.e. when teething her skin seemed more volatile. We have always used and love Country Save detergent, we use it on everything, not just cd. My dd's cheeks break out if she sleeps on a sheet washed in something like Tide, so we don't go there for her cloth.
I'm trying to think if there is anything else that helped us....there was a time when we used Aquaphor once or twice a day on her hiney. Because we don't have any All-in-ones and use stay-dry liners that wasn't a problem for us wash-wise. If things don't get completely clear with all the other stuff mentioned and more cd friendly rash creams you could go to something more hard-core like that. Speaking of All-in-ones, how confident are you in your washer's ability to clean them? Flats and pre-folds are so much easier to get clean, and therefore less likely to cause rashing. HTH. My heart goes out to you mama. I've been there and it is so frustrating.

Re: Rash Issues

I encountered this issue when we 1st started CD. It was frustrating because no matter what style of diaper = rash. For us, the solution was switching to a better barrier cream. We were using Magic Stick & switched to California Baby, problem solved.

Re: Rash Issues

She cleared up for a bit. I started out using method free and clear, then I switched to Classic Rock. I think she is fine when I use the BG 4.0s, I tried a day with the charlie bananas and they are the culprit! there is just something about the fleece that doesn't mix with her.

Reel Life - I might have to try a couple of those cover you suggested! I also need to get a snappi and let her hang out with just a prefold on sometimes!

Thank you for all the help
