Healthy Slow Cooker?

I love to use my slow cooker, but I am trying to eat healthier. I would love some recipes that don't have anything canned or processed added. Any ideas?

I mainly use mine to poach chicken. Then I always have chicken on hand to put on salad, pasta, rice, or quinoa. It would also be good for chicken tacos or enchiladas or a casserole.

I just put 3-4 lbs of whatever chicken is cheap and cover with water. Throw on whatever seasonings you like (garlic powder, onion powder, and fresh pepper are my faves) and cook on low for 10 hours. It will fall apart as you attempt to remove it.

I have the ebook from "Mama and Baby Love" and it is full of that. I think the only things that are canned are tomato paste or cranberry sauce. I would link to it but I am on my phone. I am sure you can goggle it.

Re: Healthy Slow Cooker?

I used mine three times this week: overnight oatmeal, veggie lasagna with no boil noodles, and a berry cobbler dessert. None had anything processed except the lasagna noodles and some biscotti in the cobbler.

I posted this on another thread today, but definitely check out the Crockpot365 blog. All of her recipes are pretty easy, and because they are GF there isn't a ton of processed stuff. My favourites from her blog are the old fashioned chicken noodle soup, the general Tso chicken, and the cranberry pot roast.

Re: Healthy Slow Cooker?

Hey there Beth! Thanks for asking about this. I use my slow cooker about once a wk and I love to make pinto beans. I add in carrots, sometimes a little tomatoe sauce and a couple small pieces of some smoked meat. My family really enjoys that meal.

Thank you for the recommendation on the crockpot 365. I want to try overnight oatmeal.

Re: Healthy Slow Cooker?

Homemade soups and stocks, whole chicken or roast with veggies, beans etc. No need to use processed with the crock pot at all. Just all fresh ingredients and low and slow it.

Re: Healthy Slow Cooker?

There are several (mostly) unprocessed crockpot recipes that I love. Three of my fav's:
Beef Stroganoff
Pulled Pork Chili
Beef Stew
