Sick babe

My dd is 8 months old and came down with a really high fever yesterday and it's still going strong. The nurse told me to give her some Gatorade or pedialyte since she was throwing up too. The problem is, my milk production seems to have tanked since last night! Can her being super sick affect my supply?

Re: Sick babe

Probably not that quickly. Is she nurses as much as normal or more? I would have her on the boob at every chance. If she's nursing a lot, you may feel like there's not enough because she's constantly draining it before it gets to that full feeling.

Also, are you eating and drinking enough? With a sick little one, you might not think of yourself often but dehydration can definitely diminish your supply. And are you sick? That could have a negative effect on your supply.

My nursling and I are sick too. I have not noticed a supply dip but have noticed he has wanted more booby than normal. I would try to drink as much as you can and eat more. Maybe some fenugreek or Mother's Milk tea.

Yes, if she is not nursing as much, especially over multiple days and if drinking other liquids. I would always pump to try to make up for my DD nursing less.

FYI Gatorade or pedialyte are definitely not necessary if she is drinking breast milk! Do not replace BM with either of those if you can help it.

She is nursing/comfort nursing a ton! That's all she wants is mommys boob in her mouth. I have been eating and drinking more today, especially water and I still feel empty...she throws it up, so she's apparently getting enough. I just *feel* empty, lol.
