Re: Would you name baby after recently deceased?

My third son's middle name is Donovan after mil Donna who passed a month before he was born. I'm so glad we were able to honor her in his name, I just wish she were still here to be a grandma to them all.

I agree

DD1's middle name is after DH's grandma who passed away several years ago. While not a similar situation in that she was not recently deceased, it meant a LOT to MIL (her daughter) and I'm really glad we did it.

I think it is such an honor to let our kids have a name of someone who meant so much in our lives, whether the person is living, recently deceased, or has been gone a long time. My DDs middle name is my moms name and she died 9 years before my DD was born. My sons first name is a family name and after my husband (as well as 5 grandpas on DHs side!!) I think you should do it if it makes you happy! You could always ask other family if they're comfortable with it too. I'm so sorry for your loss, mama.

I think I would. My Grams passed over 2 years ago, but if we have a girl I will want to honor her with the name. (It won't be the same, because my Grams was Mildred Olga, but her nickname was Tillie and I'm in love with Matilda.)

Yup. Hubby's grandmother has been ill recently, and if this baby is a girl she will be named after her no matter what.

Re: Would you name baby after recently deceased?

My grandfather passed away 3 months after DS1 was born and 14mo before DS2 was born. All of our children have a family name as their middle name. We ended up using my grandfather's name as DS2's middle name to honor him. The hardest part was trying to decide which name to go with lol.
My grandfather was born 'Charles Homer' but his sister was sent to do the birth certificate (home birth on a farm during the depression). She decided he needed a good catholic name too, so she added Joseph, though we're not sure which order it went in. He always went by Homer, and I tried to find a name that would go with that but found it really hard. We ended up using Charles since that was his given first name, so my son is Lucas Charles (or Lukie Charlie as he likes to call himself).

All of our children have at least one family name. All after deceased people except for one. We love to honor very special people that way. In fact my grandfather was so awesome that 2 of our kids are named after him DS1's middle name is Melvin and DD3 is called Poppy and that was his grandfather name.
