Fyi, I'm half way through the first Boxcar Children book and we have found a winner. It is very interesting for reader and audience, and the writing is very good. If the quality of the writing holds up I will be thrilled.

Re: Best 1st kids novel/chapter book to read aloud

I've got a 5 year old, and we just finished Charlotte's Web. She really got into it--and we had a little Charlotte's Web party at the end (complete with pink pig cookies and Nutella mud dip!), along with watching the movie as a family. Each day after homeschool, we snuggled on the couch and enjoyed one chapter. It was really fun. I think that if I had done it any earlier, she might not have been able to follow it very well.
