Re: Hambone and crockpot

15 Bean Soup

10 Servings

2 cups mixed variety dried beans
ham, ham hocks or ring of smoked sausage, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
15 ounce can tomatoes
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 clove minced garlic
Salt and pepper to taste

Place beans in a 2 quart pan, cover with water. Soak overnight.

In morning, drain and put in dutch oven. Add 2 quarts of water and meat. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer 30 minutes.

Oh that's yummy sounding. I could use my Dutch oven.

I use this recipe
http://mooreorlesscooking.com/2013/0...and-bean-soup/
I add Worcestershire usually, too.
Even D's likes it and he is a PITA about being picky

Re: Hambone and crockpot

Hi there Erica!

I love using the ham bone in my crock pot. I use it to make pinto beans. We love this recipe and I make pinto beans about once a wk. I get a bag of dried pinto beans, soak overnight and then put beans, ham bone, water and some seasonings in my crock pot for 10 hours and there we have a tasty meal. We love the flavor the ham bone gives the beans. I also have a rice cooker and we have brown rice to go along w/ the beans. It is very easy and inexpensive to make.

Re: Hambone and crockpot

This recipe requires more than the hambone (about 3/4c ham) but the ham and potato recipe on allrecipe.com is great!
