What would YOU do?

My oldest DD got invited to be a flower girl at my cousin's wedding the day after I'm due in June. She would be gone the whole weekend.

I'm going back and forth between this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that she would have, but also the horrible feeling I would have if she wasn't there to meet her newest baby sibling in the hospital. I would have a hard time if she missed out on that first introduction.

Thoughts? Is one event more important? She would be traveling with another family member since we are not going to the wedding - several states away.

Do you normally deliver right around your due date? I always go a bit over, So for me if she were back immediately after the weekend, I would probably let her go. I actually let my hubby travel away for the weekend for work 5 days before I was due. I knew I wouldn't have my baby early. But that is just me. You have to do what you feel is best for your family.

Re: What would YOU do?

How old is your daughter? I'm guessing it won't matter to HER to miss meeting the baby right away so you have to decide how much it matters to you.

My daughter is actually going to be a flower girl in my sister's wedding a few days after I'm due. I expect to go early, so new baby should already be here and I should be at the wedding and the wedding is in-state so we won't have the issue of her not meeting new sibling... it will be a bit crazy though!

Re: What would YOU do?

I have been consistently early with my kids so I would probably agree to it knowing baby would be more than likely there already. If not, the few days without big sister would probably be okay with all of us.

Re: What would YOU do?

Two thoughts:
-How important is it to HER that she meet her new sibling in the hospital? Is she old enough to understand and make a rational decision on the matter?

-Wouldn't your life be easier with one less kiddo at home to worry about while you're in the hospital? Call me a pragmatist :-)
