Re: Doctor said dd's hips are not lined up.

You can do an ultrasound up to 6 months (and a little beyond but after 6 months, an xray is better). After 6 months, they do xrays. I suggested an ultrasound cuz your DD is right at 6 months. My dd had a U/S at 5 months and an xray at six. I was told by the U/S tech that she was fine but I wanted a second opinion with a specialist(something I would recommend for you to do also-if they say she is fine). She just turned 1 and had an xray 2 days ago to make sure that she is still fine-her folds are still off and she still clicks. He said the xray looked good but the tech would have to read it. Haven't heard yet but I am not concerned.
For your DD, since she was C-section and had blue feet, they should have done an U/S at birth...I can't believe they missed that! At birth, she would have been put in a Pavlik Harness and the success rate with that is about 95%. Now that she is "older", it really does make it a little more complicated-not to scare you but that's how it is. The success rate for a "complete" recovery with a brace goes down as the baby gets older. With the pavlik(for babies under 6 months), you can change a dipe easy, take it off occassionally for baths, etc. With a spica cast, it doesn't come off. You have to put a dipe in the cast, then line the hole with pantyliners (yes, really...it keeps poop and urine off the cast) and then put another dipe on the outside of the cast. Heard it is annoying. Hopefully she won't have to have that. They *might* try the pavlik on her first for a few weeks to see if the hip angles improve with it. My guess would be that they use a spica if she has HD. There is a "new" brace that they can use instead of a spica which is plastic and removeable but it's not popular in the states yet-they use them in Australia. It's the Rhino Cruiser. There are a few others that aren't used a lot either and I would check into those. Check this out: http://www.hipkidsaustralia.org/b_rc.php

Oh, and your DD is in no pain. In fact, babies that don't get diagnosed with this can walk with HD without pain. The braces won't be painful either but I am sure she will be annoyed with them after a while. Keep me updated and I will pray for her. If she does have it, do a LOT of research so you can decide what is best for your DD. Just cuz a doc recommends a certain treatment, it doesn't mean that it's the best thing to do(some docs swear by a certain brace whereas another might recommend surgery or something. every doc has different opinions and training). I guess my best advise it to get a second opinion no matter what!
