Sore Boobs?

This is my 7th baby to nurse and the only time I have experienced sore nipples is when I get pregnant again. The past 2 days I have has cramps and sore boobs. It hurts SO bad to nurse her I tense up and want to bite something hard just to get trough latching on. I had my tubes tied when He was born other wise I would wonder if I was pregnant (still do a tiny bit lol) What could cause this? She is 8 months old. Has anyone had sore boobs during ovulation? I'm wondering if that could be it. Any ideas on how to cope? I'm just so sore I want to quit nursing afte just 2 days o this but I know that's just the pain talking. She's my last baby so I hate to have. Bump in our nursing relationship. Just looking for thoughts and support

Re: Sore Boobs?

I don't know the reason for why you have sore nipples. Ovulation sounds like a possibility. I only have one lo but every once in a while, I experience soreness. When that happens, I use the Lansinoh lanolin and that seems to help. My lo has been nursing 23 months and I still find that I have to use the lanolin (maybe every couple of months?). Hope that helps.

Re: Sore Boobs?

I am not sore but irritable during ovulation (IE I love nursing the rest of the time, and it really drives me up the wall-makes my skin crawl etc to nurse while ovulating.).

Is there any other symptoms though, like mastitis, or plugged duct, etc?

White spots on nipple? Red like strawberry? Fever?

White spot might be bleb issue if baby is teething. Yeast if red like strawberry & warmer than usual. If like yeast but add fever & aches then mastitis.

I had blebs here @ 8-10months with my boy.

Re: Sore Boobs?

I don't know if it something that can develop but I have a 3 week old and have had a ton of pain from the beginning. Finally determined with a lactation consultant that it is vasospasms. I am using dry heat and vitamin B6 to "treat" the issue. Google vasospasms and check out Dr Jack Newman's page.

Hopefully that helps! Good luck.

The only time I would get really bad nipple pain was when I had plugged ducts. The only sign the first day oe two would be intense pain for the first 30 seconds or so after latching. It was definitely a teeth-clenching pain. After that is when the sore/swollen spot would show up.
