My Mood:
This is my third baby so clearly I should have some experience by now - but every baby is so different. Here is what is happening: DD is over 7 mo, EBF, definitely not interested in solids, milk protein allergic, trying to add nutramigen to the milk I pumped. I have had a hormonal IUD mirena put in about two weeks ago. It has also been two weeks that she wakes up more in the night than before, to feed. Clearly I do not make enough milk because she I has been asking for more since two weeks ago. So my question is: Could that be just a simple growth spurt? (But if so, then my milk supply should have been adjusted already! It doesn't seem so to me.) Could the IUD have some effect on milk supply? (According to my research it should not) Could it be pregnancy even with an IUD? I do not want to push solid food, my previous kids started around 8-9 months and I've always had very good milk supply. It seems I have to try something more besides BM. Would you recommend rice cereal? Thank you so muh for all your insight! Sorry to bother on Christmas Eve! I know I should not...

The Mirena Definitely can have some effect, especially a mix up, even if all doctors cry that it won't.

Can you find a lactation consultant in your area to discuss this in person? You can search LL League..

I would start with oatmeal over rice cereal, I believe it's easier to digest.

I hope others chime in too, maybe you can get better advice ...

Re: Not enough BM - whats happening?

It could be the IUD if her asking for more started around the same time...

I will call LLL tomorrow. I have an apt next week at the obgyn so I might ask to remove the IUD. I've been feeling weird about it...
Thanks!!!

Re: Not enough BM - whats happening?

It could def be the IUD, my lactation consultant advised against it. However, I already knew I wouldn't get one, I just had my IUD baby 4 months ago!
