Saxon math 3 and 5/4 confusion

There are 4 different curriculums I am looking at. Saxon 3 seems too easy and its what we are using now, Saxon 5/4s placement test was too hard for my kid. I just found the intermediate 3 and 4 curriculum and I am very interested in them. I have no clue where to find placement tests for intermediate (googled and looked all over!)

Is Saxon 5/4 easy enough that a mathematically advanced 3rd grader could handle it?

Anyone use intermediate 3 or 4 and then use 5/4? and which in your opinion is best for an advanced 3rd grader?

Re: Saxon math 3 and 5/4 confusion

Classical schools that use Saxon use 54 in grade 3. They start out kindergarteners in Saxon 1. Have used intermediate levels with struggling students, too.
If your daughter's placement tests didn't put her in 54 and the first part of 3 is too easy you could buy the intermediate and start by giving her ALL the tests. Give her test 1, test 2, and so on until her results land below something like 92- 90%. Start 10 lessons behind that point.

You could also just accelerate through Saxon 3 since it's what you have now, or do something totally different and supplement with a conceptual math program on the side so she approaches math from two different angles.

We use SAXON. Once they have mastered the math facts (no curriculum before this), go straight into 54. My 7 yr old is working in 54 now.

I was almost going to go with 5/4 Saxon with my 7-8 year old. I decided with something else, but I think I'd be happy with Saxon 5/4 choice too. I do not think it's too hard if you see that your student is ready.
