Baby Led Weaning

When is a good time to start introducing solids when doing Baby Led Weaning? My 4 month old has been trying to take our food, drools and moves her mouth like she is chewing. Is 4 months too early to start soft mushy solids?

Most people will say wait until 6 months. There is a lot of different research out there including this page I came across searching for "open gut" for you.

I have a 5 month old. We give her something to eat with our dinner. She mostly plays with the food item but really doesn't eat much.

We didn't try until 6 months. That is the earliest BLW recommends. That being said, DD wasn't really into solids until 8 months. She is doing great with BLW now.

My dd is now 5 months old. We have given her a few things to eat but she just knaws and spits it out. So we are going to wait until at least 6 months to try again. She just is curious about everything but not interested in eating yet.

Re: Baby Led Weaning

I'm pumping BM & feeding solids, but my supply is diminishing. My daughter is 9.5 months old & currently we feed her 160mL/5.4oz for breakfast, then five more meals of 130mL/4.4oz with 4oz pureed food (some with more texture). She is beginning to chew more and more, but I'm at a loss as to how much solid food & milk to give her and how often. I'd rather she led the weaning (because sometimes she really just wants a bottle of milk). Does anyone have a good rule of thumb to suggest?

I nurse whenever my 7 month old wants. She has been eating solids for about a month and a half with water available to her while eating. She loves to try new food but she still nurses just about the same after before. We never substitute "grown up food" for meals of breastmilk.
Her nourishment should be from breastmilk and other food should be for experimenting with until the age of one.
I am no expert by any means and what works for one baby doesn't work for the other. Keep on feeding her breast milk!

Re: Baby Led Weaning

All three of my kids started at different times. I waited until 8 months with my second because she had severe dairy/soy intolerance. My son (almost 7 months) has been playing with food for 2 months now and my other daughter was right around 6 months My son is the only one we did BLW with and he does awesome.

When making water available what do you use to put it in?
