Help me get my milk up

I bought more Fenugreek today and also bought Blessed Thistle - ok, how do I use them together? I take 2-3 Fenugreek twice daily right now.

The reason why, is DD is 5 months old, and still feeding every 2 hours. If I go out, she waits for me, and gets a good meal when I get back, and then get's into a longer pattern for a couple feeds then goes right back to every 2 hours. She gets impatient if my milk doesn't let down immeadiately and pulls off and cries and tries to eat her fingers.

I'm afraid I'm not producing milk for her like she needs? Then I get stressed out and worry about it and I know that's not good for it either!

Soo...tell me about Blessed Thistle and Fenugreek together - how much and how often? What were your results?

I also have Mother's Milk Tea, which I try to drink a cup of daily. Wretched stuff...blech! I eat No Bake Cookies (yum, but even getting sick of those!), and strangely enough Peanut Butter seems to help.

*sigh* Help?

Re: Help me get my milk up

A few thoughts...

Do you think your baby is getting a good amount of hind milk?

Does your milk have enough fat content?

There are some healthy fats you can add to your diet - Omega 3 fatty acids and flax seed oil (also available in a capsule; it tastes nasty to just eat/drink), other seeds, and nuts.

Marshmallow root is also a good supplement to make the breast milk more satisfying.

Here are some links that may be helpful:

Hope that helps!

Re: Help me get my milk up

Try these: (I never have but its worth a try!) got the recipe from LLL site

Housepoet's Famous Lactation Boosting Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip & Flaxseed cookies (created by Noel Pickett noel@clubmuse.com)
Ingredients :

* 1 cup butter or marg
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 cup brown sugar
* 4 tablespoons water
* 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal*
* 2 large eggs
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* 2 cups flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3 cups oats, thick cut if you can get them
* 1 cup or more chocolate chips
* 2 tablespoons of brewers yeast* (be generous)

Directions:

Preheat oven at 375 degrees F. Mix together 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal and water, set aside for 3-5 minutes. Cream (beat well) margarine and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mix well. Stir flaxseed mixture and add with vanilla to the margarine mix. Beat until blended. Sift together dry ingredients, except oats and chips. Add to margarine mixture. Stir in oats then chips. Scoop or drop onto baking sheet, preferably lined with parchment or silpat. The dough is a little crumbly, so it helps to use a scoop.

Bake 8-12 minutes, depending on size of cookies.

Serves: 6 dozen cookies

Preparation time: 15 minutes

*can be found at any local health food store.

Re: Help me get my milk up

Some babies need to be a the breast more often than others, so I'd say the amount of time she spends there isn't a good enough indication of low supply. Here's a link with more info. Here's another one with info on how to check to make sure baby is getting enough.

Good luck

Re: Help me get my milk up

When I was nursing and preggo, I kept my supply up by eating oatmeal every morning. I put in flax seed oil and brewer's yeast. I've also had very good results with the Mother's milk tea. Now that I'm tandem nursing, I've noticed that if I drink to much juice or caffinated drinks , I don't produce as much. Good luck.
