Re: Help 2 day old clamps down

Rub nipple on top lip and with finger push chin down and make bottom lip turn out..you want a great latch!

Re: Help 2 day old clamps down

DD3 did this until a few days ago. Kelly Mom says it can be normal for the first few weeks. She would let up about halfway through but I felt like my nipples were being ripped off every time she ate.

Re: Help 2 day old clamps down

Cross-cradle position really worked wonders for me. It was very unnatural and awkward to learn, because it didn't seem right, but it really worked, when it clicked for both baby and I. I ended up using that technique for all 5 of my babies in the newborn age. Good luck, and good job trying! Congrats too!

Re: Help 2 day old clamps down

How big is she? I couldn't get a decent latch from one of mine b/c she was so small, it didn't matter what technique I tried...she really did need to get a little bigger (she was 5lbs w/ petite features). And now neither girl has a "good" latch, but it's painless & they're gaining weight well, so it's fine. I bottle fed until her latch improved.

Maybe a shield would help while you work with her on her latch.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!! She was 8lbs 14oz at birth and is currently 8lbs 3oz.

I did meet with an LC today and we nursed w/o pain (except there was pain when she latch but that is cuz my nipples are already sore) once she showed me how to support her whole back with the opposite arm/ to boob. And how to c cup my boob to help her latch correctly. It was the 1st time my nipple didn't look like lip stick (slanted) shape after she let go.

All was dandy and we weighed her & she got 2oz during that feed yay! Then I tried the same techniques when we got home and of course we didn't do as well by ourselves. We will keep trying
I really appreciate all the
