Help me choose a midwife.

(Long post alert!) here's my dilemma. With my first child I had a home birth with a midwife & loved it. We definitely want to do it again. But I'm having a hard time choosing my midwife. We have three options. #1. Lives one hour away, comes to me for almost all appointments & birth, is the cheapest, very experienced, have known her many years & is who we used last time. But, for some reason she makes me uptight & nervous. #2. Is one & 1/2 hours away, I would have to go to her for appointments, she only has a few years experience, wonderful calming personality, was an assistant at our first birth & a personal friend. #3. Is 2 hours away, I would have to go to her for appointments, many years experience, great personality. My husband says its my choice because he wants me to be comfortable. I just don't know what to do! What would you do in a similar situation?

I would do number 2. Just how you described each one, number 2 is standing out at as the best choice. I drive a little over an hour for appts for my mw and its worth it to me. And really until the last 4 weeks it isn't tiresome. I try and combine errands to the area the mw is in and just make a trip of it.

Don't want someone who makes you nervous and uptight when you need to be calm and relaxed! and 2 hours is is long ways to go for appts. Esp if you have littles with you. That's an entire day gone.

I also like the sound of 2.

Sounds like #2! I'd go with comfort.

Re: Help me choose a midwife.

Thanks for the responses! #2 is definitely my favorite! I guess I just wasn't sure about having her as the primary midwife since she doesn't have many years experience. Though she's been to LOTS of births & even attended classes at "the farm" with Ina May. Just to clarify I didn't mean anything against #1, she is a very nice woman. We just have quite different personalities.
