How should I prep these diapers before using them?

They are all new, do I need to wash them all in different batches? How many times?
Hemp fleece flats and prefolds
Bamboo flats
Cotton flats
Pockets with fleece lining (do pockets and covered even need a rinse before first use?!)

I'm due in two weeks and would like to prep half my batch now. Thanks!

I would wash any pockets/covers once separately just to get anything from manufacturing off. The rest can be prepped together. Wash hot, dry hot...I typically do three washes then run a bit of water on them and see if it soaks in immediately. If so, you're good to go! If not, run another cycle. I've also seen people who just throw it in with other laundry loads (with only no/plant-based fabric softener) after the first wash. I just never prep smaller amounts to be able to do that!

Pockets/covers just wash once with clothing, just as I would wash underwear.

Everything else wash on hot with detergent and dry 3 or 4 times. After one wash you could break it up and wash with clothing as well.

Thanks! I have enough to create a separate load each time! If I need to just wash dry three times, I think I can wait til after baby arrives. I don't plan on cloth diapering immediately .

So is this how you check absorbency? I'm totally new to CD. Just ordered some new and used pockets today. And was wondering about prepping/washing.
The checking for absorption thing, is that good to do if I'm having leaks too?

If it's an absorbent material this is a great way to check. Something like a pocket inner - fleece or suede cloth - typically needs pressure to let the liquid through, so this wouldn't help much.

Re: How should I prep these diapers before using them?

I just got some hemp and bamboo inserts today. Do these need to be washed separately from my pockets?

You don't need to wash them separately, but the inserts need to be prepped.
If I were you I'd wash the inserts twice in hot then add your pockets, wash once and dry.

Thanks! I've not ever had anything hemp or bamboo, was going to look up the washing instructions, so as to not mess up anything

Hemp takes forever to reach full absorbency! So, I'd wash/dry those more if you have the opportunity.
