Keep the great ideas coming!
Yeah, from 3-6 is dinner time. If you did it from 1-4 you could skate by with just snacks though.

Re: Cheap Party Eats??

We've done tacos at a few of our birthday parties and that goes well. I buy ground turkey (it's like $1/lb frozen) and use that instead of beef, and then just put out tomatoes, lettuce and cheese. We also make a big crockpot of pinto beans and have cheese and salsa on the side to top it off with.

Do any grocery stores around you do the 1st birthday cake free? It's not one of the huge ones but it's like a 8 or 9" one and you could use that for the baby's cake.

Re: Cheap Party Eats??

Our stores do the free cake! I also got a coupon from PathMark for a free Carvel Ice Cream cake, too! Not that Aedhan will be able to eat it, he's allergic to milk and eggs!

Another issue for me is the fact that I work weekends, so I'm not even home until like 1:30PM, even later on Sundays. So the timing is hard. I don't know if people would show up at like 7PM, you know?? ( I was thinking cake and a sundae bar)

ARRRGGGHHHH! This is getting so crazy!! I want to have a decent party, though, because we're also celebrating my youngest daughter's First Holy Communion, as she made that in the spring, and didn't have her party yet (she had other commitments that day)

I also have a vegan chocolate cake recipe that is super simple. Send me your email addy and I'll send it to you! It's delicious & moist! You could make it ahead if need be, and works great for cupcakes. I skip the frosting & sprinkle w/ powdered sugar if I want to "decorate" it.

You could also do a sandwich bar. My mom did this for my sister's graduation party. She makes the best homemade buns, then did cheese/lunchmeat and egg salad (guests make their own sandwiches). Also, potato salad, various fruits and cake. For drinks, iced tea and lemonade.
