Re: Grocery shopping tonight...heres what I got & total
Sounds like you got alot of shopping done! I don't think walmart will match other stores generic brands (like Save alot) but they will match exact products from other ad circulars. I go to walmart alot and i always bring the others stores ads with me. I circle what i want in BIG BLACK sharpie at home so i don't forget to tell the clerk. If gerbes (dillons) has good sales i will bring the ad with me and have walmart match the price
When you get your WIC that will help you out alot with the cereal, juice, milk, eggs...didn't you say you made an appt?

Re: Grocery shopping tonight...heres what I got & total
I hear ya mama on the pregnancy chocolate cravings!!! DH came with me grocery shopping last Sunday and we had $50 to spend for the week.
Well, with DH there, it's more like $40 for actual food that I planned on getting...Anyway, we are about to check out and DH looks at me as I am staring at the bags of chocolate sitting next to checkout (rolos, crunch bars, hersheys, mmm) and he says "you know you'll eat the bag at once if you get any, right?" I was surprised... "Oh! I am not buying it. I'm eating it with my mind..." He looked at me like I was crazy (maybe I am). But adding $2 bags of candy to the cart kills the budget quick! As I was paying he grabbed a bag of M&Ms (chocolate kind, woo) and tossed them in the cart. Yeah... I ate a bunch when we got home ![]() HOWEVER the moral is 1) I resisted the candy at the store! and 2) We only spent $49.05

Re: Grocery shopping tonight...heres what I got & total
I can do that too, as long as my kids aren't with me. When they're with me, I don't get 1/2 the things on my list (which then requires another 1/2 hour drive to the store) and they get a bunch of junk we don't need.
I told dh from now on, the kids will NOT come with me to get groceries and I'll be doing 90% of my shopping at Aldi's (cheap store) like I used to. It's just getting rediculous what we're spending on food and extras. Dh agrees.

Re: Grocery shopping tonight...heres what I got & total
Sweet! You got a TON of stuff for that much! Should the gatorade last you a good long time? That was a big chunk out of the budget, but at least it'll last.
I didn't know if you wanted us to point out anything that you could improve on..if not then disregard! LOL I noticed you spent 10.57 on breads, not including the box mixes. You could make your own..(I know you make good biscuits!) and save a good bit from that. Congrats for coming out UNDER budget!! WOOHOO So whats on the menu?

Re: Grocery shopping tonight...heres what I got & total
I have to agree with you earthmama!! I used to shop at Walmart, its basically right next door to our apt complex. But then I started shopping at Payless (Kroger) b/c they actually have sales on things and I end up spending less than at Walmart. I know people think that Walmart is so cheap, but on some stuff its more expensive. I can get my groceries cheaper at Kroger! Plus I get 10cents off of gas for every $100 I spend at Kroger.

Re: Grocery shopping tonight...heres what I got & total
Planning for three meals makes a big difference, doesn't it!?!
I just plan for supper and count on leftovers and sandwiches (PB&J, cheese or egg salad) for lunch and oatmeal w/ fruit or yogurt for my breakfast. DS is just starting solids, so he's cheap to feed yet. So, that's part of why we can get by cheap.I know what you mean about being in a hurry. If I shop around 5:00, it's too busy, I get in a hurry and don't think! You did great, though. It's good to get out of the store w/ a smaller bill than usual. A note on the cottage cheese - you could just make a pasta bake. Mix up your filling like for the stuffed shells, mixed with sauce & cooked pasta and bake. I had that just a few nights ago and it's on my meal list again. Quote:

Re: Grocery shopping tonight...heres what I got & total
oooh good tips, thanks ladies! dh is addicted to his gatorade lol~otherwise we've been drinking juice and koolaid lately. it should last awhile (i hope lol)
as for breads-im def going to try and make my own soon bc we run out of bread sooooo fast, its crazy! Ashley- i like the m&m's peanut kind so addicting but if i were to buy any, id have to wait all day until dd went to sleep so i could enjoy it that pasta bake idea sounds really yummy and that way, my cottage chs won't go bad! i used to eat it plain as did dd but since i got pg, it doesnt agree. i was a bit shocked that the name-brand koolaid was .18 as compared to the .10 generic and was shocked that the only flavors available in generic were cherry and lemonade. -sigh- dd decided to be fussy while we were shopping too bc she hadn't got to nap~ugh. On the menu- b'fast's: oatmeal cinn toast normal toast and eggs pancakes plain muffins grits cold cereal lunches: turkey sandwiches w/apples on side and pb to dip them in frozen raviolis (i'm gonna cook them lol) pb sandwiches homemade mac n chs leftovers hot dogs cesar pasta salad dinners: baked spaghetti w/green beans on side and rolls burgers and tater wedges (i have meat here already) pinto beans w/cornbread and fried potatoes terriaki chicken w/pineapples (yum!) stuffed pasta dish w/garlic toast chef salad one night french bread pizza? baked potato soup ![]() (leftover night hehe) chicken tortilla soup Chicken with Pineapple and Orange (slow cooker recipe) something using the italian dressing i bought (ideas?) DH's lunches: roast beef sandwiches (i already have that here) w/a baggie of chips leftovers baked potato-loaded w/jello-fruit thingy on side ravioli's whatever else i can toss together, lol
