Re: March chatter

We are back from a day of shopping!! My mama and I took the Chirpys out for oldest DD's birthday. She turns 9 on Sunday. I just can't believe it.

We hit the bookstore and home stores hard. Came home with a maintain of books. I should really buy those crates for my bookshelves!!!! I keep buying books instead.

Re: March chatter

If I needed verification about making the right choice with the family visit, I got it this morning. A cousin's kiddo is now sick from being exposed--they were already there when the sick ones showed up so didn't have the choice to avoid it really. That mama bear is not at all happy and can't say I blame her.

Midwife came today so group b swab is done. I've always been negative before but I know that doesn't mean anything with group b. Hoping I keep that record though. I am officially full term (37 weeks) tomorrow and cleared for homebirth any time.

Opening night of the play today!! Dress rehearsal was last night and I had to take all the littles. We didn't get home until 10:30. I don't understand why little kids are incapable of sleeping in even when they go to bed much later than normal. Hopefully they nap well.

What kind of clothes line did you hang Cathy? We have never put one up here and sometimes I miss it but sometimes I'm glad I don't feel like I need to mess with it lol.

Yeah for a fun shopping day Chirpy! I need to do some clothes shopping for some of mine. What kind of books did you get? Are you working your way through a favorite series or anything?

Yay for the book haul.

And for the GBS getting done and full term! It's just a $1 cotton clothesline strung around the posts on my wrap around porch. I need to put up another 2 lengths of it, but I'll use the one from last year which is currently hanging indoors. I'll wait til spring to do that, but REALLY enjoying this preview--today is 70, sunny and didn't rain like it was supposed to, just very windy.

AB loves Nancy Clancy books. They are the chapter version of Fancy Nancy. So she got one of those and Anne of Green Gables. She just finished the Little Women trilogy so she is ready for Anne!!!!! My favorite books!!!!!

L was looking for his first chapter books to read! We had a hard time finding anything for him. Then he found some Animal Planet books in a series. Sharks, Bugs, Dolphin Rescue, I can't remember what else. We ended up with 6 of those and a set of Star Wars chapter books for early readers. Nonfiction is where it's at with him. One fiction book I did find for him is Appleblossom the Possum. It's an account of a possum's life from birth. And the possums talk to each other. It's very interesting! He loves possums for some reason and that book was just meant for him.
The little ones got some new picture books and story books. I always choose classics or books with beautiful art and good writing. B is still learning to read so she found lots of chapter books she wants to go back and get when she is ready. I'm thinking that was excellent motivation for her!

Waiting for my DD to perform. It's very noisy here and I'm sure to have a headache after.

I've been MIA because my parish had a Lenten Mission and I was there in the morning and in the evening. It was both exhilarating and exhausting.

Now to catch up.

I know I've asked before but can you all refresh me as to what you do for Lent if anything?

We have an Ash Wednesday service at church.
We read the Lenten Tree devotional every night starting on Ash Wednesday. It is a lot like the Advent Jesse Tree in that you choose ornaments every night to represent the scriptures being talked about.

What was your Lenten Mission like?

Re: March chatter

A missionary priest came and offered Mass in the morning and confessions. Then he would give a talk in our social area. It was almost like a lecture and questions time. Each day had it's own theme. In the evening he would give a related talk and we would all spend some time together in prayer.

I would say it gave us all more to think about and focus on.

My old parish never offered a mission so it's been years since I've been to one.

I have a headache as predicted.

I hope your headache improves.

I wish we were closer together! It would be so neat to go to church together sometimes!
That sounds like a really uplifting event.

Tonight we talked about the Passover for our Lenten devotion. One of my favorite subjects.

I don't know if I mentioned that for my Women's Gathering in January, I stayed overnight at a retirement home for nuns. Our hostess was from way up north somewhere and she was a hoot. I think I may start a thread in SS.

It was great!! Well the play was great, and the kids were great. The trip there was a real fiasco. Flat tire + spare that refused to come down + jack broke = van almost crushed DH. Then the spare was flat. And the van wouldn't start. All in all a real mess. But we made it and all is well.

They had a performance tonight as well which was also great--not just my kids but all the kids there have worked so hard and it has came together swimmingly. Plus all the adults--director, choreographer, stage workers, sound people, costume makers...everyone has just really done a good job. They have one practice and two performances next week and then we will be done for a while.

We don't do anything for Lent, but have family that does. I find it very interesting but can't say I've looked into it much or have much knowledge on the subject.

I had a huge to do list to start the day and knocked out a lot of it but didn't accomplish everything I wanted. We got a free box of bananas that were on their way out so I made six batches of banana bread and muffins. Dropped some with the supplier of said bananas, some with BIL and SIL that helped us out of our van mess yesterday, and we still have plenty to eat. And many bananas left but I ran out of yogurt. Hoping to cook some more Monday. Cut the boys hair, got everyone ready, lunch, snack, packed for play, and on and on. I have also barely started the big job of switching clothes out, the weather is starting to warm and several of the kids are changing sizes to boot. But I'm big and slow right now, and that's a huge undertaking on a good day, so I may be working on that for a while.

Today is my mama's birthday and she was thrilled with her bag. She got to come to the play tonight too and really enjoyed it.

I imagine the morning is going to be rough tomorrow since the kids went to bed so late. We don't typically have loads of extra time on Sunday morning anyway so it will probably be a struggle. Hoping we all get a chance for a good rest in the afternoon.
