Re: My toddler wants to wear Sposies! :-(

My dd wore sposies exclusively until my ds was born (dd was 27 months). At that point, sposies were comfort for her, what she was used to. I bought her the prettiest pink CDs and she could have cared less. WHY do sposies come with cartoons and princesses on them????? LOL Anyways, I just let her keep the sposies and potty learned pretty quickly, actually.

If I were doing this again, I think I'd hide the sposies!!!

I'd hide them, but my 22 month old hates sposies and cries when I try to put them on her. She has a basket of CDs and she gets to choose one when its time for a diaper change, but we keep the sposies at the top of her closet for emergencies only. We've only been CDing a month or so, and she already hates the sposies.

I would hide the sposies and let him choose which cloth he wanted. I think it will probably speed up potty training for you too. Lisa

It is all about ELMO! My DD is still in sposies at night until we find a diaper that can get through an afternoon out. She loves to see Elmo again, I keep the sposies in a drawer and I take the out only at night. She is also going through a frog period so she is just as happy with anything with frogs on it.

Can you find a diaper that has Elmo on it? There may be copyright issues......

HIDE THE SPOSIES! That is what I have to do for my babysitter. I have told her I want the boys in cloth when they are at home and usually there is no reason to not do CD while in my house. I keep them washed, stuffed, and ready to go. But we do have one bag of sposies on hand just in case I feel we need them and we were given some by a relative recently. I came home one day and all of the kids were in sposies and I think it was because they were in plain sight.

I have a 27 m/o that wants my day care girl's sposies because they have Elmo on them. He never asks for my day care boy's generic elephants.

I'd just put the sposies away and offer a CD choice. And, work to CD full time then he won't have a choice.

Re: My toddler wants to wear Sposies! :-(

Thanks for all the advice. I think he likes sposies better because he can feel the wetness with cloth diapers. I know after he's peed because he'll walk up to me and sign to me that he needs a diaper change. And i take the diaper off and the insert is only a little wet. He's also waking in the middle of the night now because he wants a diaper change.

Do you have any microfleece liners? They may help him feel dry and less irritated by being wet. However, he may potty learn sooner if he doesn't like feeling wet.

I have heard this advice several times from different parenting "experts": Don't offer any child a choice if you aren't prepared to live with that choice. So while it is a good idea to let him make some choices, like the pp said, offer him a choice btwn 2 CDs, not btwn a sposie and a CD. That way you are really getting what you want, and he thinks he is getting what he wants!!
