If everyone was the same the world would be a VERY boring place.

Re: Optional testing?
I chose not to get it for much the same reasons as the pp's. I worry too much anyway.....and with a high rate of..indicating that further testing be done when it's really not necessary...I figured it would make me worry a lot more. The ob told me that considering my age and medical history of my family, I was at low-risk anyway. I wouldn't have terminated under any circumstances so, I didn't feel there was a good reason. If there was something 'wrong', it'd be nice to be prepared/educated...but for me personally, i probably wouldve just worried rather than comfort myself with education.

Re: Optional testing?
A couple I know that goes to our church had the test come back positive for down syndrome, the doctor encouraged them to have an abortion, they refused, the dr actually got mad that they wouldn't terminate the pregnancy. Then 2 weeks later they called and apoligized that the test results had been mixed up with someone elses and their baby was healthy! Oh my!!! In the end they did have a very healthy 10 lb baby girl.

Re: Optional testing?
I can't believe that a doctor would advise to terminate a Downs baby...that just makes me so mad, and sad. Like their quality of life is less than a nornal person's
