plastic cutlery, cups, etc. versus OPTIONS

I have decided to toss my plastic cups, forks, spoons, etc., and use some alternatives -- things nicer for the LO and nicer for the environment.

I wondered if we could ...

> share information on safe alternatives (bamboo, stainless steel, etc.)
> share information on buying: where, sales, etc.
> compare and contrast: what works, what doesn't?

We use stainless steel for the entire famly including baby ds for flatware. The kids use glass juice cups or their siggs. I love bamboo but there is nothing wrong with our current flatware so i dont need any new ones yet.

Here's one thing I found I thought was a perfect splurge for Baby's First Solid Foods:

Horn "Salt Dish" with Spoon

I thought this was beautiful, and even if you don't use it for its intended purpose (fancy salt) you could pass it down to baby's baby!
