Books to prepare ds for baby #2?

We were at the library today, and I wanted to pick up some children's books to start discussions about the new baby. But I had NO IDEA what to look for! Any recommendations??

Re: Books to prepare ds for baby #2?

I forgot to look to see how old your ds was, but I bought a REALLY cute book for my ds when he was little (not necessarily to prepare him) called Everywhere Babies. It goes through the different stages of babyhood. It has colorful pics showing all different types of families (multicultural). He LOVED that book. Each time we read it I would remind him how he was fed, rocked, carried. It was a great tool to talk about family memories as well. We also looked at his baby book a lot. It helps them remember how special they were/are. We also got the Bearentain Bears one (sp?), but I wasn't a big fan because it has baby hitting big brother. Anyway, good luck, it is a great idea to start preparing early.

Re: Books to prepare ds for baby #2?

I really liked the dr. sears book on new babies. I just looked it up - it's called Baby on the Way by William and Martha Sears. It shows the new baby coming, but does a good job of showing things like breastfeeding, etc. What I really liked was that it had a lot of basic dummied down info, but had some more detailed info in there, too - makes it easy to give just the right amount of info for a particular child (for instance, my older son asks lots and lots of questions, my middle son not so many - it was a good book for both).

I highly recommend this book. We checked it out from our library along with What Baby Needs(by the Sears') MANY times during my pregnancy. It was definitely a great help for our DD. LOTS of info for parents and wonderful pictures for the little ones.

Re: Books to prepare ds for baby #2?

My DS loved "Froggie's New Sister" IT's a cute book he picked out when Scholastic was having a book fair at my college when I was pregnant with my ODD. But I thought it was even cuter when he brought the book out to have me read to my ODD when I was pregnant with my 2nd DD. So I guess it helped him

Thank you all for you suggestions! Can you believe that our local library has every single book you mentioned? I feel like I really hit the jackpot! Can't wait to go back there and get those books!
