I have a ring sling and I have never really figured out how to put the baby in it.
Anyone try slinging an older baby? |

Heck yeah! If you already have it...
After 20 pounds or so I couldn't go miles and miles anymore, but the rs is perfect for quick shopping trips or to soothe a fussy lo. Start with the hip carry and go for a walk right away. The motion is soothing esp if they are not used to being carried. I have carried older babies that were not used to it (my nephew and kiddos I was babysitting) and they always love it... For hikes and longer walks, I would recommend a Mei Tai or an Ergo.

If you haven't been babywearing all along, it may take some time to build up for "babywearing muscles"..lol A sling will be fine, but a 2 shoulder carrier like a Mei Tei would be much more comfortable for you.

I just started using a mei tai and my baby is 18 months old! LOL! I agree that the mei tai is much easier on the muscles.. I mean, I love my ring sling too, but my shoulder and upper back hurts after a couple hours.. I could go hours and hours with the mei tai with no pain whatsoever.. I love it!

Re: 10 months old....still try a sling if haven't before?
We just started using a pouch sling and I have to tell you, my 11 1/2 month old loves it! We've got a ring sling and 2 mei tais but they barely ever got used. Since I made this ring sling 2 days ago, she's been in it every chance she can. When I'm not wearing it I've been keeping it in the diaperbag which is usually hanging off a door knob, she's been dragging it to me whenever she needs some BW time.

Re: 10 months old....still try a sling if haven't before?
Thank you for your responses. I'll try the ring sling this weekend. I'm just afraid he's going to slip out.
I don't have extra $ right now to buy another sling (nor can I really sew...trying to). I'm also not a small mama...fluffy is more like it. Thanks so much!!! |
