What would/did you do?

I could really use some advice. I am barely past my due date, but things don't look good; I'm only slightly effaced, and there's no dilation. Basically, dd is showing no signs of wanting to come out anytime soon. Added to this is my doctor's assessment that our baby is very large already, in spite of the fact that I have avoided meat and dairy with added hormones throughout this pregnancy. I'm worried about having to be induced and/or having to have a C-section, especially since we very much want to have this baby naturally using the Bradley method.

So, I have begun looking into other options to force labor to start. The problem I'm having is deciding what is and is not safe in terms of herbal supplements, and what methods are most effective. We have been having intercourse, I've been eating spicy food, and I've been drinking red raspberry leaf tea, but I need to kick it up a notch. I know there are a lot of other methods out there, so I'm hoping to hear what worked for you and what you advise against. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Well just keep in mind that even if you were dilated it wouldn't mean you were close to going into labor , so try not to get discouraged about not being dilated , also take the baby sizing with a grain of salt , it's not always accurate .

You could start on some EPO , it just helps your body produce more natural prostaglandins , the same thing your hubbies sperm contains , try to keep yourself elevated after sex so his stuff stays by your cervix , nipple stimulation , orgasm . The thing is nothing will work unless your body is ready , if there are no health concerns with baby then here is no reason to not go past your due date . Try not to get discouraged and try not to stress

Re: What would/did you do?

I was the same way. I was 4-5 days overdue with DD, only about 1 cm dialated and not looking favorable at all! So I started using a manual breast pump to get things started and DH helped me with some acupressure points on my hands and feet. This website has some good suggestions and shows some examples of the acupressure points.

Anyway- we started the afternoon of 4 days overdue and did it every few hours or so (pump and acupressure points). I then woke up the next morning and started in again. During one of my breaks from the breast pump my water broke and things got to moving. This may/may not help you but I too wanted to try to get things started "naturally" without being induced in the hospital. Good luck Mama!

I also suggest the pineapple. And, definitely don't take the DR's estimate of what your child weighs to heart. My first son was supposed to be 9+ lbs, because his head measured so large. He was 7lbs, 6 oz. My youngest, again 8-9 lbs... he was 6 lbs 13 oz. And my doctor is a high risk DR who did/does an US at every appointment, so he definitely knew what he was doing. It's just a flawed guesstimation.
