TEETHING!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Anyone else? (Marco's first few teeth popped up the past few days - it hasn't been fun for anyone).

Re: TEETHING!!!!

Teething is horrid! Have you tried allspice necklaces or amber?

Speaking from experience: allspice is the bomb!

Re: TEETHING!!!!

I've never heard of allspice necklaces - I'm going to google it right now. We have an amber necklace, but nothing seems to work. My poor baby is miserable all the time and always has to have something in his mouth.

Re: TEETHING!!!!

I don't kow if you will find anything on Allspice necklaces...I didn't when I Googled. Allspice has really helped over here though. It almost eliminated the crankiness and fevers and the teeth pooped through in just a few days as opposed to a week or more!

If you don't find anything when you Google LMK and I'll write up all the info for you!

Re: TEETHING!!!!

What does Allspice do?
Allspice contains the ingredient Tanin which tightens the gums so teeth can pop right in, instead of fighting with puffiness. Allspice also keeps fevers low and ends most crankiness associated with teething. I have yet to see it stop drool, but that's the least of my concerns

What do I need to make an Allspice necklace?
- Whole Allspice beads (found in the spice aisle of almost any grocery store)
- Dual-Duty Thread (or stretchy if you want to take it on and off)
- Small Needle (the smaller, the better)
- Clasps, optional
- Decorative beads, optional

How to make an Allspice necklace:
1. put a small pan of water on to boil. Once it reaches a rolling boil, pour in Allspice beads and boil for 5-7 minutes. This makes the beads softer so the needle goes through easier.

2. Drain the Allspice, let cool and then string onto a necklace. Length is up to your comfort level, but it's best to keep it closer to the neck. Tie necklace around baby's neck (or fasten if you're using a clasp).

Can Allspice necklaces stay on all the time?
Yes. Allspice necklaces can stay on 24/7...they can also be taken off if you're more comfotable with that. The spice will still have an affect for a short period of time after the necklace is off. Not more than a day IMHO

How often do I need to replace my Allspice necklace?
I generally replace my son's necklace after 4-6 months. You may notice beads falling off so you may want to replace it sooner if the beads get sparse, but I've noticed that the boiling of the allspice keeps most beads on (I've only had 5-6 fall off in the months I've had it on my son). I generally go by the smelll of the necklace. Once I can only smell the Allspice by putting my nose right up to the necklace...it's time to change.

The cost of all the materials for an Allspice necklace is only about $10-15 (depending on what you use....beads, clasps etc.) but a container of Allspice can make from 4-6 necklaces!

Also, you will find that baby will still want to naw on things and may have pain associated with teething, but I have found it to be much more bearable with the necklace rather than without. You may still need to use Orajel once in awhile.
