A custom order-How long does it take?

I know there was a thread a few days ago on how long people have waited for a custom order...

But how long is reasonable to wait on an order that only requires sewing, no embroibery or extra stitching, just putting the diaper together?

I have been waiting on a few orders that I sold off quite a bit to be able to purchase and it has been about 10 days for each order. I have not received any notification between the time I ordered and now. I am wondering if I should start to contact the WAHM's or wait it out?

It is just that I have ordered other dipes, had great communication with the mama and have gotten the dipes in 3-5 days.

I know everyone is different....What do you all think?

Thank you, Heather

I know it only takes a short time to make a basic diaper.. but you also have to figure in who is ahead of you in line to have thier diapers made. For example I have 40 somthing diapers to make and if you place an order today you are 41 in line.. so even tho it takes me 1 hour to make your dipe.. you still have to wait for the others to be done first.

Your best bet is to just email the wahm and kindly ask what the current wait time is..

Good luck!!

Re: A custom order-How long does it take?

Does she state a turnaround time anywhere?

I don't tend to email WAHM's asking about my order unless it has been 2-3 weeks -- sometimes I'll wait longer than that, even. WAHM's have lives, too -- they may only have a few hours a day that they CAN sew, due to babies or other schedules with their families. And if they DO have a "line" of people to sew for, I can understand that increasing the time it takes...

I don't sew, I knit. I CAN make a pair of small or medium knit pants in a day, IF...
... the kids play well together
... the kids take good naps
... I don't have appointments outside of the home
... the phone doesn't ring constantly
... I don't have dishes piled and laundry needing done and other household stuff
... I don't have a ton of emails to return

and that's just a few examples. So, even though I CAN knit a pair of pants that fast (which means I could probably do shorts or soakers faster), I list my pants turnaround time as 2-4 weeks. Things come up -- I RARELY have a day when I CAN knit that fast. So rather than list a super quick turnaround, I give myself the extra cushion of time...

Of course, again, I don't know what was listed on her site as turnaround. But do remember that even sewing diapers is not just sewing -- there is prewashing fabrics, and cutting out the pieces (I have done some sewing, and cutting fabrics sometimes takes longer than the actual sewing!), sewing, threading and rethreading the machine, adding elastic, all that... then packaging and labeling... perhaps going TO the Post office, if she doesn't ship from home. She may only have a vehicle certain days of the week (like me), so that could do something to turnaround time...

So, there's lots of possibilities of why things take a while. I'd give it a little more time. And of course, email if you are concerned.

Re: A custom order-How long does it take?

Thanks Ladies, I think this is really great feedback...And I really appreciate it.

It is really helpful to get a picture of what else goes into making a dipe too.

I know what is like to have kids and heaven knows some days we barely make it down the stairs....

I also keep reading posts where mama's are getting orders super fast...I just don't want to overwait, because I do have a tendency to be patient and I try to be extremely understanding, then not end up getting my order in a timely manner. Does that make sense...?

And I think I do need to double check the sites about turnaround time...That is a very good point.

Thank you!
