Re: I got my first piece of wool....

Did they lanolize it before they sent it to you? If not, you'll need to lanolize it in a wool wash. All you need to get is some lanolin (Lanisoh brand is good), and some gentle shampoo (baby shampoo). Heat a mug or jar of water, squeeze in a dolop of shampoo and melt a half or so teaspoon of lanolin (depending on if it's one piece or more) stirring until the lanolin is completely melted. The water will turn white, this is normal. Fill a sink or small basin with warm water just enough that it will cover your wool, not too hot, add your wool wash making sure it disperses well. Then add your wool inside out, getting the wash throughout. Soak for 20 minutes or more, swooshing the wool around in between that time (I flip mine over like a pancake, lol). Gently squeeze out the extra water, put on a towel, roll it up and squeeze some more water out (don't twist). Hang or air dry. HTH!
