Prefold washing....alone or with other dipes

Feel stupid for asking but after a year I am just now trying prefolds and like them.

Do they need to be washed separately all the time? I know for prepping my new ones I'll wash them alone. But after use...continue to wash alone? Can I not wash them with my fitteds?

Thanks!

I throw mine in with everything... after they're prepped they don't require anything special (As far as I know )

Everything goes int he same pail and in the same wash (minus the wool unless I have an accident which has happened much to my dismay)

I started out washing my prefolds separate from my pockets and other dipes but soon started washing them all together. I had the opposite problem, I had all PF and didn't know if it was ok to wash the pockets w/ them. Everything has been ok.

For the person asking about how to prep your PF. When you buy new PF they are very stiff and flat. You have to prewash them a few times to get them to fluff up and become absorbant. To do this you wash them several times in very hot water, no detergent. It removes all the natural waxes from the fabric so it will absorb better.

I put them all together, too. It works out really well and everything gets nice and clean.

I actually wash mine separately! But, that is mostly because all of my prefolds are tye died. And, although the dye has set, I'm still anxious about it ruining my other diapers. It's probably out of sheer paranoia---but I'm okay with that.

Besides, we don't use prefolds ALL the time, so it's not a huge hassle to me!!

Thanks everyone! I think the little prefold butt is too cute. And, I'm pretty happy that wool I *thought* we were outgrowing will now fit for a while longer using prefolds with them.
