Re: Did you allow your LO to have cake on their 1st B-day?

Of course! I've made each first birthday cake myself.

I was worrying about wheat as well as sugar at that point, so DD got a relatively healthy cake from a health food store mix. I think it was a lemon cake.... For frosting, I mushed together bananas and yogurt. (It was fine, really! <g>)

I sure did. Bradley fed most of his to me and dh. Ava played with most of hers, took a few bites, then made a gross face and cried for me to get her

Otherwise, Ava never gets sugar and ds gets is ocassionally.

Re: Did you allow your LO to have cake on their 1st B-day?

It looks like I'm the odd mom out but DS didn't get cake for his 1st. He had not had any sugar yet at that point (still hasn't really, other than the stuff that's naturally found in fruit), was not eating eggs yet, had only recently begun eating small amts. of dairy, and no wheat due to family history of celiac disease (still holding off on wheat). I just didn't want to shock his poor system with so many new foods all at once. I instead made him a parfait with bananas, yogurt, and dehydrated strawberries. He dug right in happily I still had cupcakes and stuff for guests... I don't have anything against sugar (trust me, I personally have the opposite problem!), I am just not in any hurry to turn on DS' sweet tooth any sooner than necessary. I figure he'll discover sweets on his own soon enough and he doesn't need my help being converted to the dark side of chocaholism!!! lol

neither charlie or max wanted anything to do with the cake, even after they tried it...both just shivered like it was too sweet

Of course! We're not really concerned about sweets in moderation in our house. An occasional snack won't kill 'em.

I had a friend make a special "baby cake" just for 'Lijah. We stipped him down to his diap and put him in the highchair...and let him go at it. Some of the cutest pics ever!!!!
Just wanted to say that my son refers to himself as "'Lijah" too. So cute!

We made DS his own mini-bundt-cake shaped carrot cake with no frosting (he had never had cake before). We put plain yogurt in the hole (because he *LOVED* plain yogurt). He ate (and wore) as much yogurt as he could manage to get in, but only took a little nibble of the cake (he didn't like it). We got good messy pics though, cause that yogurt was EVERYWHERE!
