Re: Ever heard of a baby being allergic to BM?

This is a very controversial subject and there are different schools of thought out there. I only know this now because we are going through it. Some babies will always find a protein to rect to in breastmilk. Since a mom does need to eat there will also be food proteins in the bm.
I cut out all the big allergens and ds was still having green mucousy bloody bms. He's reacted to multi vitamins (that are apparently free of all the allergens). I am now on a strict 7 food elimination diet and he seems to be improving. I am cautiously optimistic because he has previously improved and then gotten worse fast. I have been told to "formula feed him b/c he is allergic to my bm" by numerous Drs. This would be a very very costly measure and ther is no guarantee he will not react to that formula either. Fortunately I have found a good Ped and LC and we are working through this.
So after the long winded response I would say no babies aren't allergic to breastmilk but it may be impossible to eliminate all allergens from the mother's milk.
