Re: Breastfeeding and pregnancy

I am 10 weeks pregnant and currently nursing my 14 month old.
I am hoping to nurse through the entire pregnancy. I think that nurse needs some education....
Try www.llli.org
Also the book Adventures In Tandem Nursing is great. There is a huge section about nursing while pregnant. There is no reason in a normal pregnancy to wean a nursling.

Re: Breastfeeding and pregnancy

I found out that I was pregnant when DS was 12 months old and I am 5 weeks pregnant and still nursing despite the sore nipples. It is perfectly fine to nurse while pregnant. Oh, and I have had 1 miscarriage previously.

I am 12 weeks pg and still nursing my almost 8mo DD. My OB told me that a lot of drs used to tell women to wean, but she sees no reason to do so. Even if you have a history of early labor, it's not really the BFing that does it, but rather the underlying condition.

Re: Breastfeeding and pregnancy

You can keep nursing. The only time I would be worried would be if you had a history of ptl, then I would be doing alot of research. I nursed ds until he was 13 month and I was 4 months pg, and I am high risk. My dr was fine with it, but then again, her kids are 15 months apart and she nursed until a month before she had #2.

Re: Breastfeeding and pregnancy

If you're safe to have sex, you're safe to breastfeed, per LLL. They stimulate the uterus and the estrogen receptors in the same way. If you are at such high risk that sexual activity might put you into PTL or you have been advised not to have sex in the 1st trimester due to miscarriage risk, you might want to *think* and research about weaning. Otherwise, very much outdated advice.

Re: Breastfeeding and pregnancy

Thank you ladies for all the info!!
I am headed out today to get a copy of the Tandem nursing book and am going to check to see when the next LLL meeting is. You have all made me feel much better about my choice to continue to breastfeed my DD and I can't wait to educate my nurse!

And thanks for the congratulations!!!
