bleeding from bite

My 9 month old DD bit me last night for the first time and drew blood. I didn't nurse her on that side last night hoping that it would heal. This morning I used my Avent manual pump so I could still keep her off that side but the milk ended up pink because the wound opened up again.

So, do I nurse her on that side when she gets up from her nap? I don't want her to eat blood but I don't want to lose supply either. I hand expressed this morning after the pink milk incident but I can't do that all day. Too time consuming. I'm also afraid of getting a plugged duct.

Any advice on how to let it heal? I get thrush so lanolin is out.

It might sound gross, but the blood won't actually hurt her. Perhaps a nipple shield to keep her off the wound itself?

Yeah, I've nursed Camden when I was bleeding, not from him biting me but just from them being cracked and bleeding. I'm so sorry you got bit!

I had bleeding nipples when she was a newborn from poor latch and flat nipples and she was spitting up blood. I remember from then that it is okay for them to get some blood but I was hoping not to have to do this again.

It's ok for her to drink your milk. My nipple cracked really bad with DD and it hurt to bad to feed her on that side so the doc told me to pump. I pumpped for about a week and then I was healed enought to let her eat on that side again. Good luck. This is the only part I don't like about nursing =(
