Friday meals in Lent

Ok, Lent is fast approaching so that means I need ideas for meatless Fridays. The traditional fish is mostly out of our budget range. To feed a family of 9 healthy fish options would mostly be too expensive. We have lots of little kids but really only one picky eater. I'm looking for some new ideas. What would you serve for meatless Fridays?

What is lent? I am assuming that it is some kind of religious thing?I don't mean to come off as being rude. I'm, honestly, just curious what it is.

Have you thought of maybe some vegi lasanga? it's always pretty cheap and so so yummy! Or how about some vegi stir fry. tofo?

I dunno..

Re: Friday meals in Lent

Lent is the time of preparation for Easter. It starts on Ash Wednesday and goes to Good Friday. So yes, a religious season in the Catholic church. I have to honestly say that I am not sure if other religions choose to emphasize Lent in quite the same way. It is meant to be a time of penance, hence the no meat thing.

Did you know they sell fish at the Dollar Tree? They have Salmon, Tolapia (sp) and Mahi-Mahi.

Tuna casserole is pretty cheap. We also make these hot tuna sandwhiches. We use albacore tuna and may and cheese and celery and then cook it in our sandwhich maker, but you could grill like a grilled cheese.

How about spaghetti with a meatless sauce, or a baked zitti. I'll think of more and post back.
